By the release of this collection, the marriage and musical partnership of the late Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash had long been the stuff of legend, and the release of 2005's biopic WALK THE LINE made sure it would stay that way. But beneath the hoopla was a genuinely beautiful and appealing chemistry, which can be heard on nearly any song the two musicians performed together.
16 BIGGEST HITS collects the best of these songs, spanning recordings made between 1964 and 1980. The duo could be lighthearted ("Long Legged Guitar Pickin' Man") or profoundly tender ("The Loving Gift"), and while some "family acts" can be sentimental and saccharine, Johnny and June managed to infuse their bond into the emotions of the song, so that their desire ("Help Me Make It Through the Night") or sassiness ("Jackson") was the world's to share.
